What is a Guardian Ad Litem?

Curious about what a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) does? The North Carolina GAL program trains community volunteers to stand up for abused and neglected foster children, ensuring their voices are heard and their best interests are prioritized in court. 💙 Every child deserves someone who will advocate for their safety, well-being, and future. GAL volunteers are a lifeline, providing unwavering support during the most challenging times of a child’s life.

But advocacy doesn’t stop there. At HARK, we work closely with GALs and social workers to ensure that foster children’s basic, emergency, and child-specific enrichment needs are met. Whether it’s providing essential items, support during a crisis, or creating opportunities for growth and joy, we are committed to giving every child the tools they need to thrive. Together, we’re making a lasting impact—one child at a time. 🌟

We are also proud that 50% of our board members are currently or have previously served as GALs. One of our newest board members, Kyle Turner, is one of Buncombe County’s newest GAL! Great job, Kyle!

However, more GALs are needed here in Buncombe county. Learn more about the GAL program at the link in our bio, and Kyle asks that you “join us in making a difference!” 🌟
